Description The morning hangover, dreaded by all, is caused by a high level of toxins in the body. The liver needs to overwork itself to try to eliminate the body of these poisons.
Symptoms and Signs:Symptoms vary but are essentially categorized by mental confusion, headaches, thirst, weakness, trembling, and irritability. Causes: Hangovers occur in the morning and are caused by an excess intake of alcohol the night before. Foods Whole grains and nutritional yeast are recommended. These foods will provide B vitamins that help calm the body. Drink plenty of mineral water before going to bed to avoid dehydration.
Herbs Gentian will help soothe and normalize an upset stomach. Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1/2 teaspoon of root and infuse for 15 minutes. Drink 1 cup before each meal. Ginger will help relieve nausea and also helps soothe the stomach. Prepare a decoction of 3 to 4 teaspoons of fresh or dried root boiled with 4 cups of water for 10 minutes. Take 3 times daily or whenever needed. Peppermint will also help soothe and normalize an upset stomach. Add 1 to 2 teaspoons dried herb to one cup boiling water. Drink 3 times daily or whenever needed. Agrimony, Centaury, Feverfew, and Wormwood all help to relieve migraine headaches often associated with a hangover.
Lifestyle If possible, avoid drink binging.
