Page 1 of 7 (also referred to as...) Malnutrition, Underweight Description Malabsorption is often confused with eating disorders. On the contrary, malabsorption is not categorized with poor eating habits, such as those associated with anorexia, bulimia, or obesity (although such behaviours can and do lead to malabsorption). Malabsorption is the inability to properly assimilate the nutrients with which the body is provided, regardless of diet, the number of supplements taken, or even eating habits. This also sets malabsorption apart from food allergies. Food allergies, such as lactose intolerance, result from your body's reaction to what it absorbs. If you suffer from malabsorption, the problem lies in the very assimilation of those nutrients into the bloodstream. In this respect, malabsorption can feel like a helpless condition.
