Page 5 of 26 Peptic Ulcer (Duodenum Ulcer, Gastric Ulcer) An ulcer that occurs in the stomach is called a gastric ulcer, while one that forms in the duodenum (the first part of the small intestine) is called a duodenal ulcer. Collectively they are called peptic ulcers. Duodenal ulcers are four to five times more common than gastric ones. Peptic ulcers are more common in men than in women.
