Description

Glutamic acid is an excitatory neurotransmitter and increases neuron firing. It serves mainly as "brain fuel" and is the only amino acid to be metabolized in the brain. As a result, it is found in high concentrations in this region.

Glutamic acid is the precursor to GABA and is also converted to L-glutamine in the body. It metabolizes sugars and fats in the body, detoxifies ammonia, and also transports potassium to spinal fluid.

Ailments / Situations Where Used

Glutamic acid promotes mental acuity and helps reduce sugar, carbohydrate, and alcohol cravings. It is also useful preventing or treating childhood behavioral disorders, epilepsy, fatigue, hypoglycemic coma (a complication of insulin treatment for diabetes), mental retardation, muscular dystrophy, Parkinson's disease, and ulcers.

Source

Glutamic acid is abundant in both animal and vegetable proteins.

This amino acid is also available in a multi-amino acid complex and protein powder supplements in various doses.

Optimal Absorption

For optimal absorption, take as part of a multi-amino acid complex.

Contraindications / Precautions / Warnings

It is not recommended to take a single amino acid for an extended period of time without supplementing with other amino acids as well. Long-term isolated amino acid supplementation can create an imbalance in the body.
