2,5-Diaminovaleric Acid

Description

Ornithine is produced in the body from L-arginine and serves as the precursor to proline, glutamic acid, and citrulline. Ornithine and arginine are involved in releasing growth hormones that promote the metabolism of excess body fat.

This amino acid also stimulates insulin secretion and helps insulin to work as an anabolic (muscle-building) hormone. Ornithine is needed for proper liver and immune system function. It regenerates the liver and detoxifies ammonia in the body.

Ailments / Situations Where Used

Ornithine increases muscle mass and reduces fat. It helps rejuvenate the liver and promotes healing and repair in the body. Ornithine may prevent or help treat arthritis, burns, cirrhosis of the liver, connective tissue disorders, fatty liver, recovery from surgery weight problems and obesity, and wounds.

Source

Ornithine is available in supplemental form with or without L-arginine. These amino acids should be taken together: same dose, at the same time.

Depending on the country in which you live, ornithine may also be available as an isolated supplement in capsule or tablet form. You may require a prescription.

Optimal Absorption

As mentioned above, ornithine should be taken with arginine. Take only on an empty stomach, with water, and no protein.

Contraindications / Precautions / Warnings

Ornithine should not be taken by children, pregnant women, nursing mothers, or anyone with a history of schizophrenia.

It is not recommended to take a single amino acid for an extended period of time without supplementing with other amino acids as well. Long-term isolated amino acid supplementation can create an imbalance in the body.
