(also referred to as...)

Pyrrolidine-2-Carboxylic acid

Description

Proline is similar to L-arginine and L-glycine. It's primary function is to produce collagen. It aids in reducing collagen loss caused aging and stimulates wound healing. It helps heal cartilage and aids in strengthening joints, tendons, and the heart muscle. Working with vitamin C, proline maintains healthy connective tissue.

Ailments / Situations Where Used

Proline promotes the healing of wounds and burns. It aids in preventing bleeding gums, easy bruising, and improves the texture of the skin.

Lipoprotein(a), or APO(a), is known as "the killer molecule" as it may be ten times more damaging than LDL cholesterol. APO(a) acts like a sticky plaster: repairing cracks in artery walls. However, it can also clog arteries if there is a lack of vitamin C. Proline and lysine have the ability to neutralize APO(a) killer molecules. Proline may also help prevent atherosclerosis and most connective tissue disorders.

Source

Proline is found primarily in animal protein, eggs, and dairy products. Vegans may obtain proline from wheat germ.

It is also available as part of a multi-amino acid complex.

Optimal Absorption

For optimal absorption, do not overcook foods.

Contraindications / Precautions / Warnings

No known toxicity.

As it is found primarily in animal proteins, vegetarians may be deficient in proline. Consult with your dietician, naturopath, or other health practitioner.

It is not recommended to take a single amino acid for an extended period of time without supplementing with other amino acids as well. Long-term isolated amino acid supplementation can create an imbalance in the body.
