Description

L-taurine is the building block of all amino acids. It is found in the central nervous system, skeletal muscles, heart, and white blood cells and is essential for the utilization of calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium in the body.

L-taurine is needed for chemical reactions that produce normal vision. Taurine works cooperatively with cystine decrease your body's need for insulin. This amino acid is also a part of bile.


 

Ailments / Situations Where Used

Taurine helps maintain proper eye health. It helps control blood sugar levels and aids in normal heart beat and rhythm. L-taurine is known to prevent or alleviate cataracts, Down's syndrome, diabetes, heart disorders, hypertension, muscular dystrophy, and ulcers. This amino acid may be used to treat breast cancer. Consult with your naturopath or other health practitioner.

Taurine is found in eggs, fish, meat, and milk. It is not found in vegetable protein.

Taurine can also be found as part of a multi-amino acid complex or in isolated form. Depending on the country in which you live, taurine may also be available as an isolated supplement in capsule or tablet form. You may require a prescription.


 

Optimal Absorption

For optimal absorption, do not overcook foods.

If supplementing, take 500 to 1,000mg daily.


 

Contraindications / Precautions / Warnings

As it is found primarily in animal products, vegans may be deficient in taurine. Consult with your dietician, naturopath, or other health practitioner.

It is not recommended to take a single amino acid for an extended period of time without supplementing with other amino acids as well. Long-term isolated amino acid supplementation can create an imbalance in the body.
