It is essential for central nervous system functions and produces serotonin that provides normal sleep patterns. Higher levels of tryptophan result in increased serotonin levels. It also acts as an appetite suppressant. Vitamin B6 is needed for the formation of tryptophan while tryptophan is necessary for Vitamin B3 production.
