(also referred to as...)

SOD, Cu/Zn SOD, Mn SOD

Description

SOD is an enzyme produced in our bodies as a function of our genetics. Along with other genetic antioxidants (such as glutathione and catalase), SOD works as the body's defense system.

There are two kinds of SOD: zinc/copper (Zn/Cu) SOD and manganese (Mn) SOD. Each works to protect a specific part of a cell. The Cu/Zn SOD protects the cytoplasm (outside the nucleus) where free radicals are produced as a result of metabolic activities. The Mn SOD is active in protecting the mitochondria of the cells (that produce cellular energy)

Ailments / Situations Where Used

SOD neutralizes the most common and possibly the most dangerous free radical -- the superoxide radical. SOD aids in the utilization of copper and zinc in the body, reduces cell destruction, and revitalizes cells.

SOD may slow down the aging process. It helps prevent cellular damage and cancerous cell growth and is also useful for cardiovascular disease, auto-immune diseases, and premature death.

Source

SOD is found in broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, wheat grass, and most green plants.

SOD may also be available as a supplement in various doses in combination with other antioxidant nutrients such as glutathione and catalase.

Optimal Absorption

Do not overcook food.

Contraindications / Precautions / Warnings

No known toxicity.
