Latin Name: Salvia sclarea

 
Description

Do not confuse with Clary sage with Common sage (Salvia officinalis) which is much stronger and has very different properties. Clary is believed by many to have hormonal properties which can help balance menstrual and menopausal difficulties, making it a perfect partner with Geranium.

Clary sage oil is distilled from the flowering tops and the herb and is imported from France. It has a spicy, hay-like aroma. It has been called "clear eye" and was used for healing eye problems in times past. Qi characteristics: dry, element - metal.


 

Ailments / Situations Where Used

It's a superb balancing oil both emotionally and physically. Can balance extreme emotions, reducing stress and restore inner tranquility. It can produce a state of euphoria and has been used as an aphrodisiac. It is wonderful for any stress related disorder and can be used to combat depression. Traditional uses include: relieving stress and tension, lifting melancholy, easing pain, restful sleep, as an aphrodisiac; contains estrogen-like hormone, for menopause and PMS, relieving nervous exhaustion. Emotional profile: for relieving worry, crying, guilt, obsessions and compulsions, hostility, panic.

Blends with: juniper, bergamot, lavender, frankincense, coriander, cardamon, geranium, sandalwood, cedarwood, pine, jasmine, chamomile, rose, and the lighter citrus oils, as well as the aforementioned Geranium.


 

Contraindications / Precautions / Warnings

Avoid use during pregnancy, and do not use while consuming alcohol, as it is known to increase the effects of alcohol.

Avoid if you have endometriosis, breast, ovarian and uterine cysts and other estrogen dependant conditions (cancers).
