Latin Name: Zingiber officinale

Description

Ginger is steam distilled from the root that is commonly grown in China, among other countries. It has a warm, spicy odour that is known by many. Women have been known to use ginger on their bodies to captivate their men, for it is known to be a potent aphrodisiac.

An interesting thing to note is that scientists have successfully used the essential oil to kill the typhoid baccilus in less than half an hour.

Ailments / Situations Where Used

Ginger has been used for thousands of years to relieve pain, battle colds and influenza, and to stimulate the appetite. Currently, ginger is used to treat nausea and indigestion. Its warming effects make it useful in massaging those with rheumatism.
