Commercial preparations arguably provide the best source of acidophilus cultures and come in tablet, capsule, or powdered forms. You will often find additional beneficial cultures added to the preparation, such as Bifidus. Keep in a cool, dry place. Preparations are often refrigerated and can be found in the supplement fridge at your local health food store. Do not freeze acidophilus.

Look for a dairy-free formulation with at least 2.5 billion viable cultures per capsule and keep refrigerated. Take 2 or 3 capsules daily before meals, preferably in the morning. Supplements with Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) should be avoided, as this indigestible sugar may prove problematic for some individuals.

If dairy allergies have been ruled out, you can eat yogurt that has had this bacterial culture added.
