Description

Sucanat is a natural, granulated sweetener that contains both the evaporated cane juice and blackstrap molasses of sugar cane. "Sugar Cane Natural" is darker in colour than regular cane sugar and is more rich in flavour, with a hint of molasses. The sweetener is prepared without additives or preservatives and is available in health food stores and some supermarkets.

Often used as a white sugar substitute, sucanat is more nutritious, has a lower sucrose level (88.3% vs. 99.9% for white sugar) and adds new variety and flare to dessert dishes and hot drinks.

As a granule (as opposed to a crystal), sucanat readily dissolves in water, is free-flowing, and has a low moisture content. The granules are also compressible and are often used in breath mints, candies, chewable tablets, and other preparations.
