Rhus Tox., Poison Ivy

Latin Name: Rhus Toxicodendron

 
Description

Do not let the more common name of this remedy fool you. Rhus tox. is a highly effective remedy, especially in situations involving swelling.

Typical Rhus tox. individuals are cheerful, joking, lively, restless, and frustrated. Generally, the Rhus tox. individual is upset by cold and cold weather and feels better in warm weather or a warm bath. They must be moving and cannot sit still.


 

Ailments / Situations Where Used

Rhus tox. works well upon conditions with aches and stiffness made worse on initial motion and better with continued motion. Symptoms are aggravated at night and from cold or wet weather. Person sustains injuries from overexertion, and is restless, especially at night.

This remedy is used to treat problems with the uro-genital system, herpes of the genitalia and inner thigh, and articular disorders such as low back pain and sciatica. It is also appropriate for low back pain made worse after muscle strains, as in over-lifting. Back pain is improved with heat and motion.

Rhus tox. is appropriate for arthritis of the limbs made worse at night or morning and in damp or cold weather. Symptoms improve with heat, warm bathing, and motion. It is also used to treat eczema of the skin with small vesicles that are intensely itchy and some forms of insomnia where sleep is restless due to the inability to find a comfortable position.

Rhus tox. is also used to counter poison ivy / oak / sumac rash, carpal tunnel syndrome, and is the primary remedy of choice for dealing with chicken pox.
